Introduction

Once leakage occurs, it can lead to battery performance degradation, device corrosion, environmental pollution, and, in severe cases, fire or explosion hazards. Why do batteries leak? Is leakage dangerous? Can batteries still be used after leakage ?. Energy storage systems (ESS) have become the backbone of renewable energy integration, but 2023 safety reports reveal a troubling pattern: coolant leaks caused 23% of global battery fires in utility-scale projects . Just last month, California's Valley Center facility narrowly avoided catastrophe. Firstly, safety concerns encompass a range of factors, including thermal runaway, fire hazards, and chemical leakage, which pose risks to both human life and property. Mitigation strategies such as advanced battery management systems and fire suppression technologies are critical for addressing.
