Introduction

This report examines issues and options for evaluation by EIB of the economic case for investment in battery energy storage systems (BESS). This report illustrates the role that batteries play within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) region and examines their impact on SPP power markets. The analysis in this report is based on Aurora's modeling of two distinct scenarios: the Central scenario, where battery buildout is modelled based on. This report fulfills the duties assigned to the Energy Storage (Technologies) Subcommittee (the Subcommittee) of the Electricity Advisory Committee (EAC) by the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 related to assessing the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) activities in energy.
