Introduction

The European Commission has approved Italy's €1.7 billion scheme for agrivoltaics. The program is designed to deploy 1.04 GW of installed solar. Italy’s Leading Agrivoltaics Project. In March 2023, Enel Green Power (EGP) started the construction of a 170MW solar farm in Viterbo, central Italy, which is set to become the country’s largest agrivoltaics plant. It will consist of more than 300,000 panels arranged over an area of 220 hectares. The current draft seems to allow nearly exclusively agri-PV for solar power generation on agricultural land, which enables the continuation of agricultural activity. In this article, we will outline the main features of this type of RE installation on which investments of operators in this sector are very likely to focus in the next years, also .
