A drone photograph shows the MEC’s power plant number two, with Delap Dock in the background. Photo: Tyler Milne. After 18 months of delay due to Covid border lockdowns, a World Bank-funded revamp of power systems at the Marshalls Energy Company is moving into its next phase.
How much energy will the island generate by 2025?
Renewable energy facilities’ installations capacity totaling 2,490MW and 4,085MW by 2025 and 2030, respectively. Renewable energy generation is 5,055GWh by 2025 and 9,268GWh by 2030. The share of power generation to the power demand on the island shall achieve 67 percent by 2025 and 106 percent by 2030. 52 percent by 2025 and 75 percent by 2030.
Does solar PV contribute to the island's energy needs?
The most notable observations made from the analysis are as follows: A high negative correlation between solar PV and HVDC, steam and combustion generation suggest that solar PV is contributing a large amount to the island’s energy needs, resulting in a large reduction in supply from HVDC, steam and combustion when doing so.
