Introduction

The disposal of lithium-ion batteries in large-scale energy storage systems is an emerging issue, as industry-wide guidelines still need to be established. These batteries, similar to those in electronic devices such as computers and cellphones, cannot be discarded as regular waste due to their. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are a widely used energy storage technology as they possess high energy density and are characterized by the reversible intercalation/deintercalation of Li ions between electrodes.
