What happens if ESS battery life is on?

Slight correction: When ESS Battery Life is on, the ESS BatteryLife dynamic (active) Minimum SOC can be increased up to 80% (or maybe 85%). Each time the SOC reaches 85% when charging, the increment for the day is canceled.

Should batterylife be enabled if ESS is not enabled?

In normal use with ESS, you want the discharge to be only stopped by the Minimum SOC. With BatteryLife not enabled and a relatively low Minimum SOC value, you use more energy from the Sun over time.
