Introduction
This ‘container’ makes it possible to store heat energy generated on sunny and windy days and release it again when the weather gets colder. The technology driving the system is based on what are called ‘phase change materials’ (PCMs) in combination with heat pumps. A stepped solar still having an aluminum stepped basin cum container filled with a uniform layer of beeswax (a bio-phase change material) coupled with a modified flat plate collector (beeswax-loaded system) was tested for flow optimization and productivity enhancement.
